Bangladesh level the series with clinical chase defence

Bangladesh won by 34 runs at Queens Sports Club to square the T20 series against Zimbabwe. The visitors posted 186 for 5 from their 20 overs, then held firm as Zimbabwe collapsed to 152 all out in 19.4 overs, managing just one win in the two-match contest.

The result matters. Zimbabwe had won the toss and chosen to bowl, backing themselves to defend whatever target emerged. Instead they face a dead rubber in the final game, while Bangladesh have reset the contest after what must have been a first-match defeat.

Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan built Bangladesh's innings on the back of measured batting. Hasan made 55 from 45 balls, Tanzid 58 from 44, establishing a platform worth 113 runs between them across the middle overs. Mohammad Saifuddin then exploded at the death, smashing 31 from just 10 deliveries to thrust the total beyond 180. Richard Ngarava took 2 for 23 for Zimbabwe but lacked support; Brad Evans claimed 2 for 65 but the damage was done.

Zimbabwe's chase fell apart against Rishad Hossain's spin. The legspinner took 4 for 26, dismantling the middle order with a spell that proved too much for the home batsmen. Mahedi Hasan added 3 for 24, strangling Zimbabwe's scoring rate and forcing the hosts into reckless shots.

Burl and Raza fight alone

Ryan Burl made 29 from 19 balls and Sikandar Raza 28 from 12 in a doomed effort to haul Zimbabwe back into the game. Both men struck cleanly but found no sustained support. Brad Evans, the only other batsman to pass 20, scored 25 from 14 balls. The rest of the order folded. Zimbabwe lost their last seven wickets for 39 runs, the collapse complete by the 19th over.

Hossain's four-wicket haul was the match-winning performance. Zimbabwe needed more from their opening batsmen and middle order to trouble Bangladesh's total. Instead they managed just 152, a shortfall that proved terminal.

Bangladesh's bowling unit executed their plans. The spinners dried up runs; the seamers took wickets at key moments. It was the opposite of their batting display - controlled, patient, and ultimately effective. Zimbabwe will need to regroup for the decider.
