Ksenofontov's early strike sets the tone

Aleksandr Ksenofontov broke the deadlock in the 16th minute to hand FC Minsk an early advantage at Haradski Stadium. The goal came from open play and gave the hosts a foothold they would not relinquish. Arsenal, playing away in Barysaw, found themselves chasing the game from that point forward and never quite managed to establish the control expected of a visiting side.

The early concession proved costly. Rather than settling Arsenal into a rhythm, it forced them into a reactive shape. FC Minsk sensed the opportunity and pressed their advantage. By the interval, they had doubled their lead through Arseniy Migdalenok's finish in the 42nd minute, with Ksenofontov credited for the assist. Two goals down at half-time left Arsenal with a mountain to climb.

The brief Arsenal response

Vladislav Gorbachik pulled one back for Arsenal in the 62nd minute, capitalising on an assist from Dmitri Antilevskiy. The goal gave the visitors a lifeline and briefly suggested a comeback might be possible. The momentum shift was real enough - Arsenal pressed forward with renewed urgency, sensing an opening.

Yet FC Minsk held firm. They had built a two-goal cushion and had no intention of surrendering it. Arsenal could not find a second goal to force a genuine finish. The home side's defending tightened when it mattered, and their shape remained compact enough to deny the visitors clear-cut chances in the closing stages.

Minsk's composure in defence

What separated the two teams across the 90 minutes was composure under pressure. FC Minsk scored twice in the first half and then managed the game intelligently after half-time. They did not panic when Gorbachik reduced the deficit. Their three-man defence, anchored by Artem Sokol, Ruslan Khadarkevich and Abdul Jarju Kabia, remained organised.

Arsenal's attacking play lacked the incision needed to trouble Aleksandr Gutor in the FC Minsk goal consistently. Despite having players capable of creating chances, they could not manufacture the opportunities required to overturn a two-goal deficit. The midfield three of Daniel Volskiy, Nikita Kaplenko and Vadim Tkachenko struggled to impose themselves on proceedings.

The result stands as a significant upset. FC Minsk's victory at home was built on clinical finishing in the opening 45 minutes and disciplined defending thereafter. Arsenal's failure to take their chances and their slow start proved fatal.
