West Ham's season has lurched between the competent and the calamitous. They beat Fulham 1-0 and drew 0-0 at home to Bournemouth, but those moments of solidity are overshadowed by heavy defeats and inconsistency elsewhere.

Recent Form

The Hammers won at Fulham but that remains their only victory in the last six matches. They drew with Bournemouth at home, a result that offered little encouragement. Arsenal beat them 1-0, Brentford dismantled them 3-0 away, and Liverpool thrashed them 5-2 at Anfield - a scoreline that laid bare defensive frailties. They also faced FC Magdeburg in the 22nd minute of a fixture, though the outcome remains unclear from available records.

The pattern is troubling. When West Ham perform, they can grind out narrow wins. But they lack the resilience to withstand sustained pressure from stronger sides. The 5-2 loss to Liverpool and 3-0 defeat at Brentford suggest structural problems rather than isolated lapses. Conceding five at home and three away within the same run indicates the back line cannot be trusted against quality opposition.

The draw with Bournemouth, goalless though it was, at least provided a platform to build from. But one win in six is not the foundation of a competitive campaign. West Ham need to rediscover defensive discipline and attacking efficiency simultaneously - a tall order when recent evidence suggests they can do neither consistently.
