Wolfsburg have won none of their last six matches. The Bundesliga side drew 0-0 at home to Paderborn but have otherwise lost every fixture, conceding 10 goals across five defeats.
The collapse began with a 2-1 home loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. Augsburg then came to the Volkswagen Arena and left with a 3-2 win, a result that exposed defensive frailties despite Wolfsburg's attacking response. Borussia Dortmund followed suit with another 2-1 victory, before Cologne travelled north and took all three points with a single goal. A midweek cup tie against Telstar went to the 89th minute without resolution - the only match where Wolfsburg have failed to lose outright.
The pattern is damning. They have conceded at least one goal in every outing and managed only two goals in their five league defeats. The 0-0 draw with Paderborn offered a rare defensive clean sheet but no attacking threat to build on. Against sides of Dortmund and Frankfurt's calibre, Wolfsburg have been out-matched. Against Augsburg - a team they ought to compete with - they surrendered a three-goal lead or failed to hold what they built.
The fixture against Telstar suggests there may be life in the team yet, but the evidence from the Bundesliga is bleak. Until Wolfsburg find both defensive solidity and attacking consistency in the same performance, the results will continue to pile up.
