Metz in Freefall

Metz have won none of their last six matches. A run of defeats and draws stretching across recent weeks has left the club adrift, with only a 4-4 draw at Le Havre to show for their efforts in any positive light.

The damage has been severe. PSG hammered them 3-0 at home. Toulouse won 4-3 in a chaotic affair where Metz conceded four goals despite scoring three themselves. Monaco beat them 2-1. Lorient dismantled them 4-0, a particularly grim afternoon. Even lower-division Kaiserslautern took three points with a 3-1 victory.

The Le Havre draw, while not a defeat, offers little comfort. Metz gave up four goals in that match too. The pattern is unmistakable: their defence is haemorrhaging chances and their attack, despite moments of threat, cannot compensate. In six outings they have conceded 21 goals.

There are flickers - they scored three against Toulouse, two against Monaco - but consistency remains absent. The gap between effort and result has become a chasm. Without an immediate reversal, Metz face a deepening crisis.
