Cruzeiro

Cruzeiro's Continental Push

Cruzeiro are navigating a demanding stretch against South America's heavyweights. Their record against Boca Juniors shows promise - a 1-0 win at home sandwiched around a 1-1 draw away - but they suffered a setback when Flamengo beat them 2-0, a result that will sting given the fixture list ahead.

Three more meetings with Flamengo are scheduled, offering Cruzeiro chances to reverse that defeat and prove themselves in the upper tier of continental football. The back-to-back encounters against Boca suggest a competitive series, and Cruzeiro's ability to win on home soil against the Argentine side indicates they can compete when circumstances favour them.

The 1-0 victory at home was clinical. The 1-1 away showed resilience - they didn't collapse in hostile territory. But the 2-0 loss exposed gaps that need plugging before they face Flamengo again. How they respond in those rescheduled matches will define this campaign. Cruzeiro have shown they belong in these contests, but consistency remains elusive. The fixtures ahead are not favourable on paper, yet the wins against Boca prove they are capable of taking points off quality opposition.
