LIV Golf to cancel finale in Michigan
LIV Golf cancels its Michigan finale, raising fresh questions about the league's future stability and operations.
LIV Golf is set to cancel its season finale in Michigan, according to reports from Golfweek. The decision raises fresh questions about the future direction and stability of the Saudi-backed golf league.
The cancellation affects the Rocket Classic, which was scheduled to take place at the Detroit Golf Club. The event had been promoted with odds and favourites coverage across golf media outlets ahead of the 2026 season.
This move comes as LIV Golf continues to navigate significant operational and strategic challenges. The league, which launched in 2022 with substantial Saudi Public Investment Fund backing, has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding its business model and long-term viability.
The cancellation of a scheduled event mid-season underscores uncertainty within the organisation's planning and raises concerns among stakeholders about the league's ability to deliver on its stated schedule. Industry observers have pointed to various factors affecting LIV Golf's trajectory, including competition from the PGA Tour and broader questions about the sport's commercial landscape.
