Kane Breaks Silence on Bellingham 'Rift' as England's World Cup Dream Dies to France
Harry Kane hits back at 'rift' talk with Jude Bellingham after both were benched for England's World Cup semi-final exit to France.
Harry Kane has moved to shut down talk of a dressing room fallout with Jude Bellingham after England's World Cup campaign ended in semi-final heartbreak against France, with both stars left out of the starting line-up for the biggest game of Thomas Tuchel's reign.
The decision to leave out Kane and Bellingham sparked immediate questions, with pundits and fans scrambling to explain why England's captain and its most gifted playmaker were benched with a place in the final at stake. Reports of tension between the pair, and between Bellingham and Tuchel, quickly followed defeat.
Kane, though, was having none of it. Asked directly about the supposed rift, the captain hit back: "What do you want Jude Bellingham to say?" It was a pointed defence of a teammate under scrutiny, and Kane doubled down afterwards, insisting there was no bust-up to speak of and that both he and Bellingham were simply "gutted" by how the tournament ended.
That gutted feeling will linger. England came into the World Cup with genuine belief this could be the year the long wait for a major trophy finally ended, only to fall at the semi-final stage once again, this time beaten by France with two of their biggest names watching from the bench for the decisive match.
For Kane personally, the disappointment is compounded by a career that has now seen him fall short at a World Cup semi-final without the winners' medal that has defined the eras of Messi and Ronaldo. Ironically, his individual stock has never been higher, with bookmakers still installing him as a leading contender for the Ballon d'Or. But medals, not odds, are what Kane and England will be judged on, and Tuchel now faces serious questions about selection, harmony and what comes next.
