Germany demolished Curaçao 7-1 at NRG Stadium in Houston, delivering a statement performance that underlined their World Cup credentials. The gulf in class was evident from the opening minutes, with Florian Nmecha setting the tone inside six minutes. Wirtz's assist sent Nmecha clear, and Germany's early pressure had already established complete control.
Curaçao offered brief resistance when Leandro Comenencia pulled one back in the 21st minute, but it proved nothing more than a consolation in what became a one-sided affair. Nico Schlotterbeck extended Germany's lead before half-time, profiting from a Nicolas Brown assist on 38 minutes. Kai Havertz made it 3-1 at the interval, and the rout accelerated after the restart.
Jamal Musiala struck within two minutes of the second half, converting from Kimmich's assist. Brown added a fourth on 68 minutes, again assisted by Deniz Undav, who then scored himself on 78 minutes with Kimmich providing the pass. Havertz completed his brace in the 88th minute, finishing a move set up by Undav.
Germany's attacking play was relentless and clinical. The midfield controlled possession with ease, with Kimmich orchestrating play from deep. Wirtz and Musiala operated with precision in the attacking third, while Sane provided width and drive down the left. Havertz's movement and finishing proved too much for Curaçao's backline to handle.
Curaçao never recovered from that opening blitz. Their defensive shape crumbled under sustained pressure, and they offered little going forward. Goalkeeper Edwin Room was left exposed repeatedly, facing a barrage of attempts that could easily have yielded double figures.
Havertz's two goals and intelligent movement made him Germany's standout attacker. Kimmich's distribution was exceptional, laying on two assists and controlling the tempo throughout. Musiala's pace and directness caused constant problems, while Wirtz's early assist set the tone for the demolition. For Curaçao, Comenencia's goal was a rare bright spot in an otherwise forgettable display.
Germany announced themselves as genuine World Cup contenders with this display. The combination of attacking flair, midfield control and defensive solidity suggests they possess the tools to go deep in the tournament. Curaçao, meanwhile, face an uphill task in their remaining group matches after this comprehensive defeat.
